"Education is a Right"
Description
"Education is a Right" produced in 1994 by Labor at the Crossroads, also known as Labor X, sought to understand some of the protest tactics, which made the 1989 CUNY strikes at least temporarily successful in fighting tuition hikes. In light of additional budget cuts, Dr. Stephen Brier interviews student organizers: Sheila Collins and Mark Torres, asking for their reflections on the 1989 CUNY strike. Included in the program is protest footage from 1989 featuring, among others, Alice Walker, Vivian Brady, Myrna Bain, Stuart Ewen, Richard Barickman and Richard Carter addressing invigorated CUNY students, faculty and staff. Running from 1989 to 1995, Labor X was a cable TV program that was committed to placing the voices, faces and issues of working people on television. It screened on both CUNY TV Channel 75 and Manhattan Neighborhood Network Channel 34.
