PART-TIME FACULTY MENIB
ww
LUNI: ComMMITTEE FOR PART-TIME PERSONNEL
DAVID ALLEN, CHAIRPERSON
Part-time faculty should be aware of the following:
1) The PSC Delegate Assembly has voted to defer a strike referendum.
Negotiations and mediation will, however, be resumed next week. Con-
sequently, there is little chance for most adjuncts who have been laid
o be rehireu before the beginning of next semester. The number
of adjuncts who will ultimately be rehired will depend upon the suc-
cess of the union's legal actions and contract negotiations. The
union is making every effort along these lines to save adjuncts' jobs.
It may, however, be several months before the final outcome of these
efforts is known.
2) The union is filing a class grievance for all adjuncts. Under the
PSC Constitution individuals who have a grievance pending are eligible
to remain union members, whether or not they are working at CUNY.
3) The union has instituted on a temporary basis an "associate mem-
bership" for adjuncts who have been laid off. Associate members pay
$15 per semester dues and are not eligible: to vote in PSC elections.
Associate members may continue td belong to the union's health plan.
4) Adjuncts who are on unemployment may also be eligible for food
Stamps, depending on family size and income. (Sample minimum income
requirements: family of one, $215 per month; family of two, $300;
family of three, $427). For information concerning food stamps call
490-3900.
Please contact the PSC office if you have any questions.

Title
Part-Time Faculty Members of the PSC
Description
This September 29th, 1975 memo , written by David Allen of the Committee for Part-time Instructional Staff, announced a delay in the proposed strike and claimed that the decision to defer it made it unlikely that those who had been fired would be rehired. Allen provided additional information including the temporary formation of an institution of “associate membership” for those who had been laid off, the union’s intention to file a class grievance for all adjuncts, and the minimum requirements necessary to receive food stamps.
The Committee for Part-time Instructional Staff was a standing committee of the Delegate Assembly. It was responsible for the consideration of problems facing part-time Instructional staff and made recommendations related to the part-time instructional staff.
