Dear Ira: oS
The Board of Higher Education has recently approved the establish-
ment of a new community college (tentatively designated Community
College VII) to be located in Brooklyn.
One of the innovative procedures introduced in the initial planning
of this college is the extensive participation of the community.
Space is needed to provide offices for the representatives of the
Bedford Stuyvesant community, who are working with members of the
Board of Higher Education and the University staff in the selection
of a president for Community College VII and other facets of planning
for the college. The space requirement would include a conference
room to accommodate 15 to 20 people, a general office for four staff
and secretaries and a room for the reproduction, mailing and storage
of printed material,
Since the function will be phased out when the college is established,
a month to month rental would appear warranted.
The space must be located in the Bedford Stuyvesant area. The Grenada
Hotel, Ashland Place and Lafayette Avenue, has been suggested.
It is essential that the space be made available as soon as possible,
and I would appreciate your immediate consideration and processing of
this matter,
Very truly yours,
