f ‘The following statement represents the virtually unanimous views of
a group of approximately 150 concerned faculty mambers who have delibers od
almost continuously over the past five days.
A large group of concerned students also participated in the delibe ~#? ons
and independently supported these conclusions.
1. We believe that all criminal charges against the thirty eight students ome
one faculty member should be dropped, To this erid we would ask that th:

situation that may arise in the future, no police should be brought on campus,
We believe that progress can best be made in an atmosphere of calm,
3.. We believe that the administrative charges currently being withheld against
the three students be dropped. It is our view that the general matter of
recruiting mast be thoroughly examined. _
sit-in and his subsequent arrest, did not conduct himself in a manner
_° undecoming a faculty member, Thus we ask that Professor Lesnick's status, . i,
_ which has already been restored, in no way be put in further jeopardy as ;

5. We believe that the Board of Higher Education should cease to tighten the
- present procedures of the Departmental and Gollege Wide P & B committees
as contained in the present By-Laws. We specifically oppose the tightening
of these procedures regarding disclosure and the threat of disciplinary actions
against faculty at P & B committees as contained in the Max-Kahn report.
6. We believe that the Departmental and College Wide P & B committees should
be restructured to include representation from the student body and from
all levels--tenured and non-tenured--faculty. :
7, We believe that the right to decide whether committee deliberations are
to be public or confidential and the degree to which this shall be done
wii reside with the individual under review.
& We believe that a body be elected on a campus-wide basis which will serve
as an intermediate appeal mechanism between departmental and college-wide
P & B committees,
9, We believe that an elected student-faculty grievance committee should be
established immediately, and that it should conduct open hearings in regard
to all persons who feel that they have been unjustly handled by P & B actions
this year. We believe that such a committee must remain operative until the
present P & B structure and organization are reformed. This committee will
deal with the case of Dr. Sheila Delaney.

Description
This is a statement presented by concerned Queens College faculty at a meeting of the college's Personnel and Budget Committee. Agreed upon by approximately 150 faculty members, the paper expresses concern over the college's handling of ongoing student demonstrations in March/April 1969. Many of the points enumerated in the document echo the assertions and demands made by student activists in the Ad Hoc Committee.
