SOME QUOTES
The National Education Association,
parent organization of the Legislative
Conference, agrees with the United Fed-
eration of College Teachers contention
that one of the most important roles of
a faculty Union is the development and
exercise of political muscle.
NEA President, George Morrison,
says, "When we finish unifying and get
organized in higher education, we will
have two million members...and power is
in political action."
VOTE YES FOR MERGER
Join and support the Unified Organization
It is time for faculty members to
re-emphasize their roles as citizens and
as academicians. We must utilize our
collective strength by joining the
merged organization, by becoming involved
in the formation of its policies, and
APRIL 4, 1972
by supporting the political initiative
necessary to implement our collective
will on issues such as : open admis-
sions, free tuition, research, work-
load, class size, and adequate long-
term funding.
CUT-BACK OF GRADUATE PROGRAM
At Queens College in mid-March,
a memorandum was issued directing
Chair-persons to cut back on their
graduate programs. Specifically: Sec-
tions with four, five, or six students
will simply be eliminated. Sections
below thirty-five will be increased to
that level. Required graduate courses
will be limited to three.
On whom does the budgetary axe
not fall? United political action by
faculty and students is a necessity.
We need one collective bargaining unit,
not the L.C.'s two or C.U.N.Y.'s three,
but ONE unit, as advocated by the
UFC.T.
