Dear Colleague:
I am writing to urge you to vote in favor of the PSC-BHE
contract. As an observer at many of the negotiating
sessions I can assure you that they were most difficult
because of the pressures and restrictions of the city's
fiscal crisis. Although we were unable to obtain all
our bargaining objectives, we did win three which are of
particular importance to adjuncts:
LT) COLA.’ — The Cost of Living Adjustment as specified in
the previous contract will be continued.
2) Observation - After ten semesters, no observations
or annual evaluations will be held unless either the
adjunct or the department requests it.
3) »Increments - For the first time the Board has recog—> 3
nized the principle of scheduled increments for
adjuncts by agreeing to a provision that calls for
an increment within rank for adjuncts upon completion
of six semesters including summers.
Again, I am aware that many of you will be disappointed
at what was not gained--but given the bargaining stance
of the city and the brevity of the contract and the gains
I have listed above, I believe that your support is war-
ranted.
Sincerely,
fuser agr
