Israel Kugler Biographical Video
Description
Produced by the Professional Staff Congress (PSC), the union which represents CUNY faculty and staff, this short video features the life of Israel Kugler, a labor leader for faculty at several New York colleges and a “pioneer in academic unionism.” Kugler, the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants, entered the faculty at New York City Technical College in 1947, after which he quickly organized union efforts that led to his election as president of the United Federation of College Teachers in 1953. The video traces Kugler’s successes both in and outside of CUNY, including his role in the creation of the PSC in 1972 where he served as the founding deputy president.
